Imagine stepping onto the ice and joining the most exciting and comprehensive hockey association in
Western Pennsylvania —the Pittsburgh Amateur Penguins Hockey Association (Amateur Penguins)*. We are the training grounds for whatever a hockey player hopes to achieve—from the weekend warrior to prep school, junior, or college hockey. Our programs begin with the very earliest developmental levels and progress through the highest levels of amateur hockey available—our Tier I AAA and Junior Programs.
The Amateur Penguins are proud to be the only Western Pennsylvania
based Hockey Association that can bring your child through every step of their hockey career including a Developmental Program, Tier I and II Hockey, and on to Junior's. No other association offers such a comprehensive spectrum of choices for young hockey enthusiasts in the area.
Our Association allows each child to develop at their own pace, challenging them at every level till they progress through our Junior Program. The goal of our Junior Program is to place Hockey Players from within our system to the higher Junior A levels or onto the Collegiate Programs.
The Amateur Penguins offer the right programs to meet your needs for today and provide the stepping-stones designed to help you reach your goals of tomorrow. In fact, a number of Amateur Penguins players have progressed through our program and then continued their careers in college or prep schools, Junior A, and beyond.
The Amateur Penguins organization is a member of USA Hockey, the national governing body for the sport of hockey in the United States. We are also a full voting member in four different leagues:
Empire West Amateur Hockey League
Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League
Empire Junior B Hockey League
Continental Hockey Association
In addition, through exhibition games our teams compete extensively against teams from other premier leagues, such as the:
Atlantic Hockey League
Midwest Elite Amateur Hockey League
Capital Beltway League
Ontario Youth Hockey League
The Amateur Penguins operate out of the Blade Runners Ice Complex facilities in
Harmarville, PA and
Warrendale, PA as well as the Island Sports Center.
